The Great Illustrators

1890-1950 is the golden age of illustration. The top illustrators were as famous as any celebrity today, and their styles were as recognizable. The lives of Thomas Nast, Charles Gibson, Penfield, Leyendecker, Rockwell and more were chronicled in the New York papers with blurbs like “Mr. Flagg was seen this evening dining at Café des Artists in the company of an unknown woman” … or “Mr. Norman Rockwell has agreed to be a judge at the Miss America pageant this year in Atlantic City.”
